The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the safety and health programs for Universal Packaging Systems, Inc. DBA PakLab. This role ensures compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices to maintain a safe working environment. The Safety Manager works collaboratively across departments to lead safety training, inspections, audits, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Lead accident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
  • Maintain and monitor OSHA logs, injury reports, and safety documentation.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientation and annual compliance training.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory compliance.
  • Collaborate with HR and department heads to address employee safety concerns and incidents.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and lead employee engagement in safety initiatives.
  • Develop emergency response plans and conduct drills for fire, earthquake, and other scenarios.
  • Maintain safety metrics and prepare reports for leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and hazardous waste management regulations as applicable.

Your Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and related safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for training and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead investigations and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management systems.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a safety or EHS role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification required; additional safety certifications (CSP, CHST, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience conducting safety audits, training, and regulatory compliance required.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and emergency response protocols is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged periods across production and facility areas.
  • Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear PPE including hard hats, gloves, goggles, and safety shoes as required.
  • Must be able to respond to safety emergencies and inspections in real-time.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing and office environments.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, chemicals, and potential hazards in production areas.
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for incidents or training.
  • Must adhere to strict safety and confidentiality policies.
