Job Summary: The SafeState Environmental Health and Safety Consultant II provides complex occupational safety consultation services including onsite visits to businesses and industries in Alabama.
Additional Department Summary: Works primarily in areas relevant to Environmental programs. Coordinates technical study projects related to healthy homes grant programs. Coordinates activities for collaborative efforts on capacity building and lead-hazard reduction grants. Writes reports and manage data related to all HUD grant related projects. Conducts field work for related projects. Conducts ISO 14001 Internal Audits for revenue generating activities and final report compilation. Works with the entire field services team on project management and efficiency goals. Develops, manages, and updates field inspection applications and project management software. Develops and delivers in-person and asynchronous training programs as subject matter expert.
This position is required to travel, including overnight and weekends.Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, safety science, business, management, public health, or physical sciences and four (4) years of occupational safety experience; OR masters degree or higher in engineering, safety science, industrial management, public health, or physical sciences and two (2) years of occupational safety experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Basic knowledge in the usage of personal computers and standard application software (word processing, spreadsheet / database management programs, etc.). Excellent organizational, communication, and public relations skills. Knowledge of EHS sampling techniques and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications: Must have, or obtain within 12 months of appointment, federal and state accredited AHERA Inspector (reference 40 CFR 763) AND federal or state certification as Lead Inspector / Risk Assessor (ref. 40 CFR 745).
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or eligibility for certification. Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT).
