This position will facilitate the efficient utilization of vehicular parking facilities and spaces to assist in providing for the public's safety by maintaining vehicular and pedestrian sight distances and the related purposes of other parking regulations and to notify dispatch of potential requirements for other public safety services. These objectives are accomplished by verifying the display of appropriate signage markings in traveled ways or other public notice monitoring vehicular use of parking spaces taking enforcement actions such as issuing verbal and written notices of violation with their associated fines and disabling vehicles by approved procedures and methods recording issued tickets for subsequent collection and generally observing areas patrolled for suspicious activity or conditions. This work is subject to review according to the City's personnel plan through observation reports and the results achieved. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Patrols assigned parking enforcement areas by walking or travelling in authorized vehicles giving special attention to sidewalk; street or traveled way conditions; surround pedestrian and vehicular activity and the view of these conditions from the travelling publics' perspective. Takes the appropriate actions to provide for one's personal safety. Monitors the use and misuse of parking by individual vehicles with approved; non-destructive tire markings; time metered spaces and other means as appropriate. Issues and records tickets and summonses within the scope of authority conferred by the Chief of Police; upon parking enforcement officers and in the proscribed manner. Undertakes other authorized; delegated and appropriate parking enforcement actions such as placing a restrictive "boot" on vehicle wheels and placing explanatory covers over meters notifying the public of temporary changes in parking restrictions. Observes areas patrolled for suspicious activity; conditions or potential hazards and in a timely manner; notifies dispatch by radio; telephone and/or in writing of these observations. Explains parking regulatory requirements to customers. Presents and transfers electronic and/or written records of violations; tags and summonses issued to the violations collections clerk or other appropriate person. Minimum Required Qualifications Incumbent must be a high school graduate or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED) and have demonstrated ability to proficiently operate hand held computer ticketing machines prior to the conclusion of their probationary period. Must have a valid driver's license; and have no offences which would prohibit or restrict bonding by any carrier or agent providing coverage to the City. Physical Requirements Work is performed outside in all types of weather and in typical office and court environments which may not be handicapped accessible. The work is primarily of a physical nature requiring the ability to move and traverse the city for up to four hours. Individual must transport and operate hand held key entry electronic printer violation device; reach across a vehicle hood to place tickets. Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner in all situations; including difficult interactions with the public.
