Overnight Pharmacist
Shift : 7pm-7am, 7 days on, 7 days off, competitive salary and benefits.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This job description identifies the qualifications and standards for Call Center Staff and PRN Pharmacists. Call Center Staff and PRN Pharmacists will meet the following requirements and competencies listed below. This position description provides a general overview of the type of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive list of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications that may be required of the employee assigned to the position. Call Center Staff and PRN Pharmacists report directly to the Call Center Pharmacist Supervisor.

I. Job Summary: The Call Center Staff and PRN Pharmacists work under the supervision of the Call Center Pharmacist Supervisor to assist with various operations within the Call Center, including but not limited to:

• Ensure compliance with patient care quality standards as it relates to the care provided to all groups of patients.

• Ensure compliance with all laws and governing agencies.

• Work closely with pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff to provide quality patient care. The Call Center Staff and PRN Pharmacists will have strong communication skills and be able to perform detailed work. Work is accomplished in accordance with the policies and regulations of local, state, and federal authorities as well as accepted standards of practice.

II. Duties and Responsibilities:

❖ Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

❖ Monitors activities and the workflow of the Call Center, taking appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation and quality patient care.

❖ Demonstrates effective time management and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

❖ Works closely with the nursing and medical staff and other clinical department managers in addressing Pharmacy Department issues as they are related to the services provided to all patients.

❖ Performs computer order-entry functions in an accurate and timely manner.

❖ Interprets medication orders, monitors drug regimens, and performs interventions when order clarification is necessary or when therapeutic problems are identified.

❖ Performs clinical monitoring according to clinical guidelines and treatment standards for the Pharmacy Department in accordance with hospital policies, The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, and federal and state regulations.

❖ Responds to common inquiries or complaints from facility partners or members of the hospital staff.

❖ Promotes the use of cost-effective drug therapy.

❖ Facilitates the procurement of medications from backup pharmacies for hospitals and Janus Rx facility partners after-hours.

❖ Documents activities per departmental policies.

❖ Provides general drug information services when necessary.

❖ Supervises pharmacy technicians.❖ Responsible for reporting quality related events that occur according to IPS, Janus RX, and other contracted business partner’s policies.

❖ Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

III. Professional Requirements:

❖ Completes annual continuing education and competency requirements.

❖ Always maintains and ensures patient confidentiality.

❖ Follows accepted standards of practice and adheres to federal, state, and local regulations as well as the policies and procedures of the organization and TJC standards.

❖ Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with administration, physicians, and staff in all departments.

❖ Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

❖ Ensures compliance with all company and facility policies and procedures.

❖ Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the company, as well as the focus statement of the department.

IV. Regulatory Requirements:

❖ Graduation from a School of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) or certified by the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC); Baccalaureate or PharmD degree required.

❖ Current and valid registration and licensure by the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacist.

❖ Pharmacist licensure in other states; ability and willingness to obtain licensure in other states.

❖ Abide by and uphold the privacy rule standards of HIPAA.

V. Skills:

❖ Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

❖ Strong written and verbal skills.

❖ Strong computer knowledge: Office 365

❖ Automated pharmacy systems: Automated Dispensing Software, Analytics Reporting, Order Entry Software.

❖ Self-directed, motivated, and capable of supervising pharmacy support personnel.

VI. Preferred Qualifications:

❖ Hospital experience.

❖ Familiarity with CPOE.

❖ Knowledge of EHR systems including HCS and EPIC.

❖ Experience with ADM systems including Pyxis.

VII. Physical Demands:

❖ Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds, moving, lifting, or carrying boxes.❖ Ability to sit for extended periods.

❖ Fine Motor Skills.

❖ Visual Acuity.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to type and answer phones. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
