Japanese NPO Organization seeks a Japanese Bilingual Accounting Staff .

Location: NYC (Manhattan)
Employment Type: Direct Hire, Non-exempt /Staff
*Hybrid -After the three-month introductory period is completed
Salary Range: $55,000–$58,000 annually (Hourly equivalent based on 35–40-hour workweek)

Working Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (1-hour lunch break)

Job Title: Accounting Staff

Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and bilingual (Japanese-English) Accounting Staff to support our daily financial operations. This role involves a wide range of bookkeeping, tax preparation, and administrative tasks, with regular interaction with external accountants and auditors.

Key Responsibilities:

●Daily Bookkeeping (QuickBooks)
●Processing incoming payments
●Managing disbursements (vendors and others)
●Issuing invoices for memberships, restaurant usage, and events
●Bank and Cash Management:
●Monitoring deposits and withdrawals
●Reconciling account balances
●Managing CD transfers

Accounting Closures:
●Monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings
●Preparing financial reports for board meetings (quarterly)
●Coordinating year-end audits

Tax-Related Tasks:
●Monthly sales tax filings
●Preparing data for corporate tax filings
●Payroll Administration:
●Processing payroll
●Managing 401(k) contributions
●Registering new hires for payroll-related systems

Expense Reconciliation:
●Settling shared costs with affiliated organizations

Administrative Reporting:
●Preparing and submitting required documents to New York State and City

Cross-Departmental Support:
●Responding to internal requests from other departments
●Handling inquiries from members

Requirements:
●Basic bookkeeping knowledge equivalent to Japan’s Bookkeeping Level 3 certification
●Minimum 3 years of hands-on accounting experience in a professional setting
●Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functions and formulas (e.g., VLOOKUP, SUMIF) — Must
●Fluency in Japanese (reading, writing, and speaking) — Required
●Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
●Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners
●Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks is preferred
●Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is a plus
