Maintains public trees in City parks and easements. Responds to emergency situations caused by tree failure that impact City access and infrastructure. Responsibilities include: Oversees and participates in forestry practices such as: ANSI A300 Tree Care Standards for pruning, tree planting, and removal Stump grinding Safety and compliance Equipment operation Training and supervision Emergency response for weather or accident-related tree failures Tree health care including watering, aerating, fertilizing, air-spading, mulching, and staking Maintains and repairs equipment used in tree planting, trimming, and removal Ensures adequate supplies and equipment are available on trucks Clears worksite and performs ground-level clean-up of debris Communicates effectively with employees and citizens Cares for and stores equipment properly Responds urgently to public safety concerns Documents changes in tree health and safety Uses aerial lift to trim trees and manages debris removal Inspects trees for decay, disease, and pests Operates equipment for insect and disease management Performs general landscape maintenance Supports City-sponsored events through setup and takedown Equipment used includes: Chainsaws Aerial lift / Bucket Truck Hand tools and gas-powered equipment such as leaf blowers, stump grinders, and chippers Hand shovels for drainage and site correction Ropes Small tree pruning tools Dump trucks, tractors, chipper trucks, claw tracks Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Valid CDL Class B Driver’s License At least 5 years of experience in plant maintenance and parks upkeep Ability to operate various tree maintenance equipment Minimum 3 years of experience in tree removal, planting, pruning, and responding to tree failures Experience working in residential areas with traffic and pedestrians Ability to read work orders, pesticide instructions, and manuals, and to record and report work Follow safety instructions and complete tasks safely Preferred qualifications: Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide license Background in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscape Maintenance, or Horticulture Physical requirements: Ability to sit, stand, and transport self between worksites Ability to operate vehicles and work in extreme temperatures Physical ability to bend, lift, and move equipment and materials Exposure to chemicals during plant maintenance #J-18808-Ljbffr City of University Park
