Parking Enforcement Supervisor APD Parking Enforcement Officer Supervisor – Alexandria Police Department Overview The Parking Enforcement Supervisor leads the Parking Enforcement Unit, overseeing daily operations, training, scheduling, and performance of Parking Enforcement Officers (PEOs). The role combines field leadership with administrative responsibilities, ensuring efficient, professional enforcement of parking ordinance across the City. Responsibilities Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate a team of Parking Enforcement Officers. Monitor field activities and maintain documentation on citations, attendance, leave, complaints, and accommodations. Prepare and conduct formal employee performance evaluations per departmental policy. Ensure all operational equipment is available and in good working condition; maintain inventory and issue purchase orders as needed. Respond to electronic and telephone inquiries; prepare written memoranda for citizen complaints and internal investigations. Represent the division in meetings concerning parking issues and special projects; present to the Community Police Academy. Participate in the structured panel interview process for hiring; assist with training new officers and provide practical training during academy sessions. Communicate departmental directives clearly; explain policies and procedures to subordinates. Manage bi‑weekly payroll and overtime submissions using Kronos. Testify in court regarding contested citations; provide supporting documentation for hearings. Analyze procedures and recommend updates to unit manuals and SOPs to improve efficiency. Complete required annual security training and perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Prior law enforcement or public safety experience understanding parking enforcement and community safety. VCIN/NCIC certification or ability to obtain it within required timeframes. Supervisory or team‑lead experience, including training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and constructive feedback. Proficiency with enforcement tools such as mobile data browser (MDB) and time‑keeping systems (e.g., Kronos). Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to recommend process improvements. Professional presence when representing the department in meetings, court, or citizen inquiries. Commitment to accountability, integrity, and public service. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of City and State parking, licensing, and inspection ordinances. Working knowledge of two‑way radio communications and MDB. Knowledge of City geography and the ability to navigate varied environments. Strong observational skills during patrols. Ability to perform tasks in adverse weather conditions. Excellent communication – oral and written – with the public and internal stakeholders. Physical ability to perform the duties as described in the Medical Essentials requirements.
